I was inspired by the video here with the spaggetti straps but I wanted a sweatheart neckline instead of a straight one, a standard waisted dress instead of a drop waist (drop waist does not flatter my figure), and wider straps. I used a strapless prom dress pattern and added wider straps. I used fabric which my son purchased for me...ok, he let me use his debit card... for Mother's Day.

This fabric was slightly off grain and it was a one way pattern. Because of the princess design of the bodice and the circular design of the skirt, which required the pieces to be cut on the crosswise grain of the fabric, matching the pattern was not something that I felt I needed to do.

I did insert boning into the bodice and lined only it. I did not line the skirt as the fabric was closely woven and I felt that lining the skirt for a summer dress would be too hot.
