I am currently following your step-by-step course on altering jacket shoulders.  The problem I'm having is that the individual's shoulder is very narrow and the shoulder pads are at least 3.3cm thick.  I have to reduce the shoulder length by 5 cm .  Is this too much to take off the shoulder?

Re: Altering Shoulders on Women's Jacket

Dear Tessa469,

This should not be a problem, you can decrease the shoulder width by as much as you need to, depending on the person's body shape and change the shoulder pad to a thinner one as well.

In the past when they used very thick shoulder pads, they also exaggerated the shoulder width.

Happy sewing,

Nehzat
