In this lesson you will learn how to cut and sew a dress from a ready made pattern. Part A Learn how to use the chart provided in the pattern package to purchase the right amount of fabric for your project based on your size. Then, how to square your fabric, lay the pattern pieces on top and cut the fabric pieces for your garment. Then, cut and fuse interfacing, transfer the pattern markings to your pieces, cut the tulle fabric for the petticoat with ruffle, sew the facing, bodice, sleeves and join the sleeves to the bodice. Part B (releasing next month) Learn how to gather the skirt and join it to the bodice, then insert a zipper to the center back opening of the dress. How to sew the petticoat with a ruffle, join it to the dress, make a belt using a ribbon and the belt loops. |

Learn how to read the information on a Burda ready made pattern. In this lesson you will learn about the information on ready made pattern packages, such as what materials are needed, how much fabric is required depending on the garment size and width of the fabric, etc. You will also learn how to read the information on the inside pattern sheet. Including how to read the measurement chart, understanding the symbols used on the pattern pieces and what they mean. As well as how to read the cutting layout diagrams on the pattern sheet. In the next video lesson we will use the ready made pattern in this lesson to sew a dress for a child. |

Learn how to sew an inserted slant side pocket for pants or skirts. In this video lesson, see how to draft an inserted slant side pocket on a copied pants block pattern. You can apply the same steps for sewing pockets to a skirt. To draft pants or skirt block patterns, you can watch the Pants (click here) or Skirt (click here) block pattern making video lessons. Once the slanted pocket patterns are drafted, we will add seam allowances, cut out fabric pieces, fuse interfacing to the pocket opening and sew the pocket pieces to the pants. When the pockets are sewn to the pants or skirt, the rest of the sewing process will be exactly the same as the Pants (click here) or Skirt (click here) sewing video lessons. |
