Hi!  My name is Jacquie and I am new to sewing.  I just purchased my 1st machine...its a vintage, loved by so many.  I am hoping with the tutorials from this site I will be well on my way to unleashing the seamstress within!

Currently I am working on the Free Sample videos and progressing to the paid subscriptions.  One thing I have not seen however are instructions on how to read patterns, this would be very helpful to a beginner.  I would love to sew clothes for my children and the patterns on the market seem to be simple, but reading them seems to be a challenge.  Please advise.....

I look forward to learning how to sew.....

Re: Vintage Machine Loved by So Many

Dear Jacquie,

Welcome to the site. I am sure you can use the video lessons to learn and improve your sewing skills. By watching the videos, you can gain knowledge you can use for many different projects including making cloths for your children.

We are working on releasing a lesson on how to use ready made patters. In the mean time you can watch the pattern making lessons on the site to understand how patterns work. There are many things in common between our pattern making lessons and the ready made ones you can buy. This will help you to read and understand patterns better.

I myself have sewn a lot for my children. This is very rewarding and gives great happiness to your children and yourself.

Happy sewing,

Nehzat

Thank-you!

Hi Nehzat,

Thank you for your reply.  I am learning so much from your site.  This site has encouraged me to have a new appreciation of the construction of garments.  I no longer take for granted  a well fit blouse, skirt or pants ever again.  My grandmother's 1st love was sewing and I never really understood her passion until now.  I'm hoping that the skills I learn can pass down to my children, because I'm noticing that the art of sewing is subdued in my generation.  Well no more!!!

Re: Love of Sewing

Hi Jacquie,

I agree sewing is also a passion of mine, it is a pity that the art of sewing is not thought in schools as much any more.

I had the opportunity to learn sewing and handcraft from my mother my aunts both from my father's and my mother's side. They in turn learned from their mothers and so on.

All this experience has passed on from generation to generation and I was lucky to be able to watch and learn their tips and tricks. Now I feel great pleasure from passing on my knowledge and experience to the members of the site.

Thanks again,

Nehzat
