I am making a fleece jacket. I have to sew 2 rows to gather my collar. The thread doesn't move. I am using a long stitch and 100 percent polyester thread. I can't get it to slide at all.

Re: How to Gather Fabric

Dear meistercats,

To gather fabric, you need to lower the top thread tension and set the straight stitch length to a longer setting, however for heavier materials like fleece you should use the longest setting.

The right side of the fabric should always be facing upwards as well.

After sewing the two rows that are about 4 mm apart, gather the fabric by pulling on both the bobbin threads at the same time.

Pull a bit and spread the gathered fabric, then repeat until you get the desired length.

This should make it work,

Thanks,

Nehzat
