My great grandmother taught me to sew clothes for my dolls from fabric scraps when I was 8 years old. When I was a young woman I made clothes for myself, and made a few things for my daughter and her dolls when she was little. I never became highly skilled. I stopped sewing around 20 years ago and recently decided to start sewing again. I've been amazed at how much I enjoy it. Even though I have made clothes before, I still consider myself very much a beginniner.

I found this website when I was looking for a tutorial on how to alter jackets. I bought some men's jackets at a thrift shop with the intention of learning how a tailored jacket is put together. Now I want to alter them so I can wear them. They actually fit pretty well except in the shoulders and back. I am learning a lot from the videos on how to alter the shoulders and am looking forward to viewing all the other videos on constructing and altering garments.Nehzat is an excellent teacher.

Re: Great Grandmother Taught Me to Sew

Dear altamira55

Welcome to our site. Thanks so much for the kind words.

I have learned a lot of sewing from my own mother and aunts. They were a great influence on me and gave me the joy I find in sewing. It is never too late to learn a new skill or brush up on what you already know. I think that you should be  able to learn more by watching our videos. Please share your work with us.

Happy sewing,

Nehzat
