My name is Ike. I subscribed to the esewingworkshop because I want to learn more techniques in sewing. I am interested to learn how to sew a round table cloth. In practicing to sew, I encounter the problem of sewing the sem of a round pattern. I hope you could show us how to sew a round table cloth.

Thanks and more power!

Re: Sewing a Round Table Cloth

Dear ike-51,

Welcome to eSewingWorkshop, I hope that you will find our lessons helpful.

I believe that you have an issue with sewing the hem of a round table cloth. There are different ways to sew around a rounded edge.

For beginners the easiest way is to sew a narrow double folded hem.

  1. Place a strip of masking tape about 8 mm from the machine needle parallel to the guide lines on the needle plate.

  2. Then align the edge of your table cloth with the edge of the masking tape and sew around the edge using matching thread color. This stitch line will be your mark for the first fold.

  3. To keep the fold in place, fold along the stich line and baste by hand or machine or use an iron.

  4. To do the second fold use the raw edge of the first fold as a guide to help you fold again.

  5. You can baste by hand to keep the second fold in place then sew close to the folded edge by machine using straight stitches or sew slip stitches by hand.

Let me know if this helps.

Happy sewing,

Nehzat
