Pants Block Pattern Making

Hi Nehzat,
I was wondering where you buy your paper for block pattern making. I have tried Staples and a number of art stores in Toronto but unable to find an easel paper roll, which I'm guessing is what I need? Would llarge sheets used for flip charts suffice? If not, what size paper would be suitable for longer garments such as pants?

Thanks very much, Nelly. I think Office Depot is called Staples here? I did try them but they didn't have it. Someone told me they have it online, though! I bought some flipchart paper that is okay but seems to tear easily. Kate

I don't know if this will help you in Canada, but just in case anybody else in the State has the same question:
I bought a 36 inch roll of white paper at Wal-Mart several years ago. I beleive it was in the Art and Crafts area. Anyway, it works perfectly for drawing the front and back on one sheet. I found this really helps in keeping everything lined up as you design the pattern. I draw a center line and then when I draw out the horizontal lines I draw them all the way across the paper. Saves time when going from the back to the front design.
I've seem the same roll at Hobby Lobby as well.

I agree with you. I used 24" wide paper but it's two inches short for me! Is your paper see thru?

Dear Kate,
In the videos I usually use isle paper roll from ikea, they sell these in the childrens department. This paper is not strong enough for drafting patterns, but since it is not white and not see trough the patterns show up well on camera.
Yes you can use large sheets for flip charts, however these are not long enough for pants. You can tape sheets of this isle paper together to make larger ones.
Below is a list of other types of pattern paper and places you can purchase them here in Toronto or online.
Tracing Paper, which is see trough, to transfer the pattern to it. It is available in different widths and lengths.
Dot Marker Paper, which has numerical and alphabetical markings to help you draw your pattern. This type of paper is also thinner than regular printer paper.
Manila Paper, this type of paper is tan in color, and is available in different thicknesses, widths and lengths.
All these papers are available in roles.
In Toronto, you can visit the sewing supply stores on queen street. One that has these products is called Neren's Sewing Supplies, it is number 451 Queen st west on the south side very close to TD bank. Close to the intersection of Queen and Spadina.

Hi, my name is Nelly. I have been using banner paper for my block pattern. It works great. You might be able to find them any office supplies stores. I do not know if there is Office Depot in Toronto. If so, go there you will find it there. I hope this info will help you.
